One day as I was wandering in a sylvan wood,
Certain the fairy-folk would speak to me if they could.
While darting swallows wrote auspices across the sky,
The moment opened and a gate appeared nearby,
Out of which crawled a serpent of luminous green,
Unlike any woodland creature I had ever seen.
It slithered across the moss up to my shoe,
And spoke in a sonorous voice, “I have a message for you.”
So, I sat down on the forest floor and replied,
“Who sent you to this lonely countryside,
O Sapient one, and why a message for me?
Please reveal the secrets of your hidden mystery.”...
