Abstract: Cultures around the world utilized plants and substance available in their surroundings for therapeutic purposes. One such plant is Andrographis paniculate, also known as Kalamegha in the Ayurvedic pharmacopeia. Andrographis is commonly referred to as the "King of Bitter" due to its intense bitter taste. This plant can be found in many tropical and subtropical regions such as Asia, South East Asia, India, Australia, Central America and in the Caribbean. Indigenous and traditional medical practices from these regions all propogate the use of Andrographics for management of a variety of disorders. Medical systems of India including Ayurveda and Siddha mention the use of Andrographis for treatment of many different diseases.
