According to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, atma is consciousness. The deepest aspect of one’s life. One’s very existence. This is an essential component of life, at the basis of the mind, body, and senses. This definition of life indicates that consciousness, the Self, is the key component that makes a living being. It is also described as unmanifest, eternal, unbounded, and all-pervading.
