Abstract
Millets are a group of highly variable small-seeded grasses,
widely grown around the world as cereal crops or grains for
human food and as fodder. It is scientifically proven that millets
are high in fiber, rich in essential amino acids, vitamins, and
minerals, naturally gluten-free, alkaline, non-allergenic, and thus
easily digestible. Additionally, millets are beneficial for those with
diabetes, obesity, or other lifestyle diseases. A low glycemic index
makes them an ideal rice substitute, good for cholesterol, diabetes,
and weight loss. The present article elucidates the traditional
usage of millets, their importance in the human diet, and their
benefits as a natural source of medicine for many widespread
common diseases of modern times.
