Introduction: Genital herpes occurs due to the herpes simplex virus, one among the family of herpesviruses. There are generally two types of herpes simplex virus: type 1(HSV-1), most frequently associated with oral lesions or cold sore, and type 2 (HSV-2), presenting with lesions in the genital area.1 HSV-1 is a contagious virus which may be transmitted via direct oral contact to cause oral lesions; however, oral to genital contact may spread the HSV-1 infection to produce genital herpes. HSV-2 is a sexually transmitted virus producing lesions in the genital or anal region.2
